Client Spotlight
Bria Dinkins
is a director and costume designer working in film and fabric.
Interview Date: March 10th, 2023
What are the mediums you create in?
I like to think of myself as a director and costume designer, so, in simple terms, the mediums I create in are film and fabric!
What do you say when people ask you what you do?
I usually say I work on the wardrobe team for film and theater productions since that’s what I am usually doing. Other times, I’m a freelance designer. It depends.
What are some words that come to mind when you think about your creative style?
Informed, bold, playful
What are you currently working on?
My personal life. I have been so career-focused for the last couple of years and now I am feeling pushed to create without bounds, focus on relationships with others, travel and try new things.
What is a piece of advice around creative work (or work in general) that you call to mind often? (Or what advice would you share with others?)
The worst they can say is no. Now, what if they say yes?
Bosses, critics, and potential employers can reject your pitches, your work, or you for a role. Always keep trying and focus not on their yes, but on your craft and yourself. Then, when you get that opportunity, you’ll know yourself and be ready to shine.

How long have you been working with Melissa?
From July 2022 to March 2023. 7 ½ months!
What did you come to coaching for?
I knew I wanted to switch my career and move cities, but I wanted support in doing these things and creating a plan for myself.
What are some ways that coaching has impacted you?
I’ve cultivated a number of skills such as visioning and goal-setting, self-accountability, self-advocating, and self-compassion.
What are some ‘wins’ that you would attribute to being supported by Melissa?
Quitting my job! Moving to NYC! As well as dedicating time toward making outside of work, creating a rubric for opportunities I will accept, and learning more about my wants and needs.
What are you currently learning about yourself?
What I really want outside of my career.
What advice would you give to others who are considering working with a creative coach?
If you’re drawn to it and curious, there is a reason why! Coaching can be life-transforming.
Is there anything else you want to share?
Recommend me to artists of all kinds! I love connecting others.
